ABOUT SCFF

The Singapore Chinese Film Festival (SCFF) is an annual event co-organised by the Centre for Chinese Studies@SUSS and the Singapore Film Society from late April to early May. It is one of the few film festivals in Singapore which showcases critically acclaimed or award-winning Chinese films from different regions and offers opportunities for moviegoers to interact with filmmakers.

As one of our goals is to show every film in its entirety, local moviegoers get to watch all the selected films of SCFF in their original language, which could be Mandarin or other dialects, such as Hokkien, Cantonese, Teochew or Shanghainese. In addition, language is not a barrier for SCFF as most of the selected films are screened with English and Chinese subtitles.

The line-up of SCFF usually consists of feature films, documentaries, and short films from China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia, and Singapore. Most of these films, premiering in Singapore, are grouped into three major sections– Chinese Panorama, Documentary Vision, and Chinese Shorts Showcase. Special sections such as Restored Classics and Filmmaker in Focus are also curated.
